Giving Unilever's senior management the power to dive deep into complex datasets, spot issues, and make informed decisions lightning-fast. Goodbye to data overwhelm and poor user experience. Hello to fast, useful and intuitive business intelligence.
Unilever, a British-Dutch corporation operating in the FMCG sector, stands as a beacon of innovation and sustainability with its diverse portfolio of over 200 globally recognized brands, including CIF, Domestos, Dove, Rexona, Knorr, Hellmanns, Algida, Magnum, and OMO. Spanning sectors such as Beauty and Wellbeing, Personal Care, Home Care, Nutrition, and Ice-Cream, Unilever continually sets industry standards for excellence.
Our enduring partnership with Unilever’s esteemed global Data & Analytics department exemplifies our commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions. Over the years, our collaboration has yielded a suite of transformative data and analytics products, with HotSpots emerging as a standout tool among them, empowering Unilever’s senior management.
Unilever entrusted Studio2wx with the task of developing an advanced mobile application designed to manage extensive datasets spanning domains such as Sales, Finance, and Marketing to facilitate intuitive exploration throughout business performance for senior management. The application needed to seamlessly navigate various dimensions such as geography, product, and brands, channels while accommodating a wide range of time horizons for many metrics and KPIs.
The goal was to deliver a user-friendly, mobile application that enabled effortless analysis, empowering decision-makers to derive meaningful insights swiftly and effectively. This required designing a solution that not only met the technical requirements but also embodied Unilever’s vision of accessible and actionable business intelligence on-the-go.
The project presented several significant challenges that needed to be addressed to ensure success. Ensuring the security of sensitive data was paramount, requiring strong measures to protect the information and restrict access based on specific dimensions. Performance was another critical factor; given the dynamic nature of the application, long waiting times for results would be unacceptable. We needed to create a solution that delivered rapid, reliable insights to keep pace with the fast-moving demands of Unilever’s senior management. Additionally, the application needed to accommodate complex views with multiple KPIs and visuals, seamlessly integrating them into a responsive, mobile-friendly interface.
Studio2wx played a pivotal role in bringing Unilever’s vision to life. We began by ideating and discovering how such a product could work and look, generating numerous ideas and creating simple prototypes. We actively engaged with the business to validate these concepts, ensuring they met the needs of senior management. This foundation allowed us to embark on four months of rigorous agile software development, adhering to all best practices. Security was a top priority, and we implemented strong data protection measures to safeguard sensitive information and control access based on specific dimensions. Additionally, we optimized the application for high performance, ensuring rapid insights without delays. Finally, we supported all deployment activities, ensuring a smooth transition and integration of the Cockpit Mobile application into Unilever’s existing systems.
Our team designed the entire product vision, providing a clear roadmap for development. In collaboration with Unilever’s Data & Analytics team, we shaped the architecture of the solution to align with their guidelines and ensure a high level of flexibility for future needs.
The visualization & storytelling is powerful
Hotspots is a co-creation between Unilever & studio2wx. It is quite powerful when you start the performance management journey, to get an over-arching understanding of the state of the nation. It helps a user to easily de-average performance and understand the areas to focus on. The visualization & storytelling is powerful (…) The minimalist need to select filters and the efficient use of screen space enable a more simplified engagement, reinforcing less is more.
